I could already tell I was going to be a tad smitten a couple of months ago when I saw this cute little home logo appear on a downtown Buda window and have since been anxiously awaiting the doors to open. Thatcher is the name and it perfectly encompasses their focus on natural home offerings.
I got to mosey over there today and ran into one of the owners, Jordan, who took the time to tell me their story. He was quick to not take credit for the idea and said his wife, Mel, and her good friend, Laura, were the brains behind the operation (smart man). Mel and Laura both wanted to do something they love with still having the freedom of experiencing motherhood. Jordan along with Laura’s husband, Alex, jumped on board believing in their vision and after much searching, they landed this sweet spot and their vision has now become a reality. I sadly didn’t get to meet the two gals behind the idea, but I’m certain I will! In fact, I apologize in advance if you find me just chillin on the couch in your store… I promise I’m not a crazy person!
Walking up to the door, you get a french country side/modern farmhouse vibe (mmmmhm… aka: right up my alley). When I walked in, it felt instantly inviting and homey. There is even a cute gal in the back making beautiful flower arrangements! This place differs from any home goods store I’ve been in because it’s not over cluttered or overwhelming and it’s actually filled with useful things and not things that just take up space and collect dust. I mean… I love those places too, but you can tell that the owners at Thatcher have carefully hand picked each product in this store. They are geared towards providing chemical free products and buying from artisans in the area or artisans who’s proceeds go towards a cause. Just to name a couple, they have a clothing line called “Live it Well” which is a couple out of Los Angela’s who sell clothes in order to dig wells in undeveloped nations… and a pottery company called “Clay and Whiskey” (uhhh you had me at Whiskey), which are handmade clay dishes.
This is a great addition to Buda and I hope that the community takes them under their wing and provides full support. If I could describe this shop in a couple of words, it would be, “Simple Living”… which I LOVE. I hope you go check it out and I assure you I didn’t get out empty handed! I found some perfect additions to the four legged farmhouse!
